Continuation of previous post:

5b: In our community:
What sort of effects are there on
- people such as families, various individuals (people of various age groups):
- animals e g pets, stray animals, birds etc;

- the environment
Who has to pay for repairs to vandalized property on public/ private property?
How does vandalism harm the people, animals and the environment?

Ans: It would be difficult for students to concentrate on their studies and adults who are doing their work. They would be affected by the vandalism and might be tempted to do the same.
Pets might get lost if the surrounding looks very unfamiliar to them and when they don't see their owner. The government has to pay for repairs made by the vandals. Vandalism would get you into trouble like paying fines. More pets would become stray if they dont recognise their homes and the environment might look dirty and messy with the vandalism.

6: Reflection:
-What sort of messages does vandalism give to visitors to the school?
- Do you think the vandalism identified gives the school a good image?
- Do people feel safe when they are near this/these areas?
- Are class rules/ school rules important? Give your views.
-How does vandalism breach these rules?
- Comment about the vandalism Act. (for Express students only)

Ans:

7: Conclusion: From all the infomation you have gathered explain how you can make our environment i e your schooland community a better place to study and live in.

Some questions to consider are:

-What are the consequences of vandalism?

-Why is it important to respect one another's property and feelings?

- How will you feel if you were the victim?

-Suggest measures your group can take to prevent vandalism

a. in your classroom/ school? b. to the environment?

1: What is vandalism
Ans: Vandalism means destroying other people's property meaninglessly by drawing on it.

2a: What are the types of vandalism?
Ans: Graffiti, scratch marks, throwing eggs/tissue paper, spray paint, drawing (Example: PAY $$)

2b: Pictures of different types of vandalism.

Ans:
Taken from Google.com

(i) Identify the type of vandalism
Ans: Graffiti, Spray Paint respectively.

(ii) Graffiti and Spray Paint

3a: Who are the culprits?

Ans: Some teenagers who have problems at home or school.

3b: Why do you think people vandalise? Suggest some reasons and discuss.

Ans: They might think that it is very fun and cool but actually they are destroying people's property. They might also vandalise to relieve stress.

4a: Thinking about your school and the community, what sorts of vandalism can you identify in or near the school and community around us?
Collect evidence with a digital camera.

Ans: They vandalise the school tables by drawing and scratching it. They also vandalise the school toilets by drawing on it. In the community, people also draw on walls.

4b(i): In school, consider: litter & graffiti both inside and o(ii)utside the building. Think about classrooms, school toilet, canteens etc as well as damage to the school grounds.
Note: You can also identify other types of vandalism that you think you would like to highlight.

Ans: They leave their footmarks on the wall and vandalise the doors of toilets. They leave packet and bottled drinks on the floor, including tissues.

4b(ii): In our community, investigate vandalism of public amenities, eg playgrounds, carparks, void decks, HDB lifts, public telephones etc.

Ans: Some people would use markers to draw on lifts and playgrounds. Some would even use a sharp object to scratch people's car or use markers to draw or write on telephone booths.

4b(iii): Each group to work on seperate identified areas i e illustrate, take photos and write about the problems that arise in one area in school and one area in our community.

Ans:

5: Consider the effects on school community/ school environment and our community-
5a: In school,
What sorts of effects are there on students, staff, contract workers and visitors to the school?
Who has to pay repairs to vandalized property on school premises?
How does vandalism effect the school environment?

Ans: Contract workers and visitors would have a bad impression of the school and they would think that the students were not nurtured well. The school has to pay for the repairs. They would change the badly vandalised and scratched tables to brand new ones and repaint the walls vandalised by students. Students would be affected by the bad environment around them.
